At Posidonia 2018, global maritime industry group Wilhelmsen and Airbus signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an Unmanned Air System (UAS) for the delivery of ship supplies.
The project will begin with a two-week pilot trial in Singapore. Wilhelmsen Ship Service will work with Airbus’ Skyways to deliver spare parts, documents, water test kits and 3D-printed consumables via drones to vessels anchored at the Singapore Port Marina South Pier.
Wilhelmsen Ships Service will be in charge of setting up the necessary maritime and port operations, gaining the relevant approvals from port authorities and securing maritime customers, while Airbus will take care of all the corresponding aviation approvals, and the running and maintenance of the UAS and its control systems.
