This year’s METS trade show included the 27th Design Award METSTRADE (DAME) competition. There were 122 entries from 22 countries in a variety of categories—marine electronics and software, and lifesaving and safety equipment, among others. The jury chose both category and overall winners, in addition to citing certain products for special mention. Criteria included design aesthetics and functionality, cost-effectiveness and lifecycle management. Innovation, ease of use and potential future impact on the industry were also considered.
Jury chair Birgit Schnaase stressed the importance of product diversity. She pointed to the needs of younger boaters with limited means, often not yet owners, and how they differ from those in the superyacht sector. She was pleased that “products are being developed to address these market changes.”
