It’s a Life Jacket…It’s a T-shirt

Getting your kid into a life vest has never been easier. Tribord, the nautical house brand of France’s Decathlon sporting goods chain, has introduced its Easy personal flotation device for children.

The single front buckle is held in place by a Velcro band to facilitate closure and adjustment. The close-fitting vest has a crotch strap, replaced by a broader seat in the model for children under 15 kg, one of three sizes available. The fluorescent orange jacket has reflective strips, a whistle and a rear foam pad to keep the wearer’s head above the water.

Its 100 newtons of buoyancy meet the ISO 12402-4 standard for calm waters. According to Bateaux.com, the company is considering the addition of a recovery strap to make it easier to grab a child who’s fallen overboard.
